FIFA Heroes Launches April 28 as a Free-to-Play 5v5 Arcade Football Game on Mobile

FIFA is getting back into gaming with something nobody quite expected. FIFA Heroes, the organization's first video game in four years, launches on April 28 as a free-to-play 5v5 arcade football title on iOS and Android, with console versions following later. Developed by New York studio ENVER in partnership with Solace, the game trades simulation realism for over-the-top action on compact street-style pitches.

The roster is where things get truly wild. FIFA Heroes blends current World Cup stars like Jude Bellingham, Harry Kane, and Emiliano Martinez with historical legends including Diego Maradona, and then throws in mythological figures like Thor and Sun Wukong for good measure. The official mascots of the FIFA World Cup 2026 round out the cast, creating a roster that feels more like a comic book crossover event than a traditional football game.

Arcade Action Over Simulation

Every character in FIFA Heroes comes equipped with unique super abilities and special moves. Matches play out on smaller pitches with an emphasis on speed, constant action, and dynamic physics that let players unleash pitch-altering power attacks. It is a deliberate departure from the simulation approach that dominated the EA Sports FIFA era, and the result looks more like a fighting game with a football than anything that has come before it.

The free-to-play model on mobile is clearly designed for maximum reach ahead of the 2026 FIFA World Cup in the United States, Canada, and Mexico. Motorola has already signed on as a hardware partner, with most new devices shipping with FIFA Heroes pre-installed and exclusive in-game rewards for Motorola users. Nintendo Switch, PlayStation, and Xbox versions are planned but do not yet have confirmed release dates.

A New Direction for FIFA Gaming

Since parting ways with EA in 2023, FIFA has been searching for its next move in the gaming space. FIFA Heroes represents a sharp pivot away from the annual simulation release model toward something more accessible and personality-driven. Whether the arcade approach can sustain a live-service mobile game remains to be seen, but the combination of recognizable athletes, mythological characters, and World Cup timing gives it a unique window of opportunity. The game goes live on mobile on April 28.
