REPLACED Launches April 14 — The Cyberpunk Platformer Worth the Wait

After years of anticipation, the stunning cyberpunk platformer REPLACED is finally arriving on PC and Xbox Series X|S on April 14, 2026. Developed by Sad Cat Studios and published by Thunderful Publishing, this long-awaited title has been turning heads since its jaw-dropping reveal at E3 2021.

Set in an alternate-history 1980s America scarred by nuclear catastrophe, REPLACED casts players as R.E.A.C.H. — an artificial intelligence unexpectedly thrust into a human body and forced to survive the neon-drenched streets of Phoenix City, a metropolis ruled by corruption, exploitation, and desperate survival. The premise is as darkly compelling as the visuals that accompany it.

REPLACED cyberpunk city environment

Gameplay blends cinematic side-scrolling platforming with fluid, counter-focused melee combat inspired by games like Batman: Arkham Knight. Players will weave through environmental puzzles, dodge enemy attacks with split-second timing, and piece together the shattered truth of R.E.A.C.H.'s identity. The narrative explores themes of humanity, free will, and what it means to feel alive — all while surrounded by some of the most striking hand-crafted pixel art ever put to screen.

The visual presentation deserves special mention. Sad Cat Studios has pushed the aesthetic boundaries of the 2.5D genre, combining lovingly hand-painted environments with real-time lighting, particle effects, and atmospheric weather that make Phoenix City feel genuinely alive. A free demo released in February already convinced many skeptics that the wait was worth every moment.

REPLACED combat and platforming gameplay

REPLACED launches April 14 on Steam, GOG, Epic Games Store, Xbox Series X|S, and Xbox One — and will be available day one on Game Pass. Given the pedigree of its visuals and the ambition of its storytelling, this could be one of the standout indie releases of 2026.
