Aphelion Crash-Lands April 28 — Don’t Nod’s Sci-Fi Survival Adventure Hits Game Pass Day One

Don’t Nod’s Aphelion arrives on April 28 as a day-one Game Pass title, sending players to the frozen planet Persephone in what promises to be one of the studio’s most ambitious projects yet. After years of building its reputation on narrative-driven experiences like Life Is Strange, the French developer is venturing into action-adventure territory with a tale of survival, isolation, and shifting realities at the edge of the solar system.

Set in 2060, Earth is on the brink of becoming uninhabitable. The discovery of Persephone — a ninth planet nearly twice the size of Earth, composed of water, ice, and scattered rock formations — represents humanity’s last hope. The European Space Agency dispatches the Hope-01 mission with two astronauts, Ariane and Thomas, to determine whether the planet can sustain human life. But their ship crashes on arrival, scattering them across the alien landscape.

Players take on the role of Ariane, navigating Persephone’s harsh terrain while dealing with shifting realities that blur the line between what’s real and what isn’t. A hostile lifeform stalks the planet, forcing players into tense stealth sequences alongside the exploration and traversal gameplay. The game’s atmosphere draws from classic sci-fi isolation stories while adding Don’t Nod’s signature emotional depth to every encounter.

Aphelion launches on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC via Steam on April 28 at 10 AM CEST. A Deluxe Edition includes a cosmetics pack, digital artbook, and the original soundtrack composed by award-winning musician Amine Bouhafa. With its day-one Game Pass availability, there’s no barrier to entry for subscribers eager to explore the frozen unknown.

Don’t Nod has been steadily expanding its portfolio beyond pure narrative games, and Aphelion represents the studio’s boldest leap yet. Whether the gamble pays off remains to be seen, but early footage suggests a polished, atmospheric experience that could resonate with fans of games like Returnal and Deliver Us the Moon.
